Pada 5, 6 dan 8 Oktober 2020, Pusat Pengajian Bahasa telah mengadakan Bengkel Latihan Penyediaan Awal Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran (PdP) bagi Sesi 2020/2021. Bengkel ini melibatkan guru Bahasa dan pensyarah di Pusat Pengajian Bahasa. Tujuan bengkel ini diadakan adalah untuk membantu para guru bahasa dan pensyarah untuk membuat persediaan pelaksanaan pembelajaran dan pengajaran secara atas talian sesuai dengan norma baharu.
Pusat Pengajian Bahasa telah menganjurkan Bengkel Pengurusan AUTHOR pada 23 September sebagai persediaan untuk menjalankan pengajaran dan pembelajaran secara hibrid untuk Semester 1 Sesi 2020/2021. Bengkel ini juga dijalankan secara hibrid. Staf akademik PPB diberi pilihan untuk menghadiri bengkel ini secara bersemuka atau dalam talian melalui platfom Zoom. Bengkel Pengurusan AUTHOR ini telah dikendalikan oleh pensyarah PPB Encik Zainal Abidin bin Sayadi dengan kerjasama Centre for Global Online Learning UTHM.
Satu majlis perpisahan telah diadakan sebagai ucapan penghargaan kepada seorang pelajar yang telah menjalani latihan industri di PPB. Cik Saleha Mohd Ali yang merupakan pelajar jurusan Sarjana Muda Sastera (Pengajian Bahasa Inggeris ) dari Fakulti Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan, UKM telah menjalani latihan industri selama dua bulan dari 24 Julai sehingga 24 September 2020 di pejabat pentadbiran Pusat Pengajian Bahasa. Semoga Cik Saleha terus berjaya dimasa hadapan.
CLS website receives positive remarks from the Chief Auditor during the Internal Audit 2020 Closing Meeting for Group F conducted online on 13 September 2020. During the presentation of audit report by Chief Auditor Madam Fazian Hashim commended the CLS web team for making the CLS website comprehesive. The online closing meeting involved four offices namely the International Office, Centre for Language Studies, Centre for Graduate Studies and Centre for General Studies and Co-curriculum.

Five CLS academic staff have been appointed as panel members of the Accreditation of Prior and Experiental Learning (APEL) UTHM. They are Dr. Azmi Abdul Latiff, Madam Iza Nurhidayah Ismail, Miss Hani Suraya Aziz, Miss Lina Zainal and Madam Junainah Tarmidi. The appointed staff were recently involved in a workshop organised by UTHM APEL Centre at Impiana Hotel Senai from 23-25 July 2020.
Deputy Dean, Dr. Azmi Abdul Latiff and postgraduate studies coordinator, Dr. Zulida Abdul Kadir were invited to present keynote speeches during the 16th Global University Network (N.E.W.S) Conference at China Three Gorges University (CTGU), Yichang, Hubei Province, China from 21-24 November. They also had several talks with CTGU's President, Vice President and Director of Office of International Relations on potential collaborations between CLS UTHM and CTGU.
CLS successfully organised the International Webinar on Language Education Series 1 on 17 September 2020. It was the first international webinar organised by the centre involving speakers from UTHM and three foreign universities which were Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta and China Three Gorges University. The theme of the first webinar was 'Reshaping Language Education Post COVID-19 and participated by 75 local and international participants.
A proposal to set up a Centre of Research at the Centre for Language Studies was presented to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr. Shahir Samsir bin Omar on 8 September 2020 by CLS management team. The CLS delegation was led by the Dean, Dr. Zailin Shah Yusoff, Deputy Dean Dr. Azmi Abdul Latiff and Assistant Registrar Mr Khalil Mohamad.
CLS recently organised English Exit Programme (EEP) from 23 August to 8 September. The purposes of the programme are to assist undergraduates to improve their English language profieciency and assessing their proficiency in four language skills namely listening, speaking, reading and writing before graduation. This year's EEP was conducted fully online in order to comply with the Standard Operation Procedure imposed throughout the ongoing Movement Control Order (MCO).
Congratulations to Rafea Mohsin Alwan on passing his viva-voce on 19 August 2020. He is supervised by Dr. Zulida Abdul Kadir and the title of his research is 'Women between Tribulation and Survival: An Ecofeminist Perspective in Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye and Alice Walker’s The Color Purple'.
Three undergraduates from two local public universities have started their internship at. The interns are Miss Salihah Mohd Ali who is a student of Faculty Social Sciences and Humanities, UKM, Miss Nurul Hidayah Samsudin and Miss Nor Hanani Aziz of Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, UPM. The students are undergoing the internship from August to October.
English language lecturer, Dr. Sarala @ Thulasi a/p Palpanadan was selected as the Best Presenter during the The 1st International Conference of Language, Literature, Cultural and Mass Communication 2019 (ICLLCMC 2019) that was held from 19-20 October at Klana Resort, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
This outbound mobility programme was conducted for the fourth time in Ozu, Japan. . Camp leader bagi program ini daripada pelajar UTHM yang telah mengambil kursus Bahasa Jepun, iaitu Two UTHM undergraduates who studied Japanes language were selected as camp leaders during the programme. They were Irdeena Solehah binti Ibrahim and Kan Mei Ying of the Faculty of Technology Management and Business The students were accompanied by two CLS staf Sensei Hiyama Junko and Sensei Siti Hajar binti Bidin.
Mandarin and Japanese language teachers Mr. Muhamad Radi bin Ahmad and Mr. Rosmahalil Azrol bin Abdullah were selected by AisAsia Foundation to share their expertise in a calligraphy workshop organised by the foundation. The workshop was organised in conjuction with the celebration of Malaysia Day on 16 September at REXKL.
Dr. Sarala @ Thulasi a/p Palpanadan who is an English language lecturer at CLS was announced as the first runner-up in the Essay Writing Competition 2019 co-organised by the English Language Teaching Centre and the Ministry of Education.
English language lecturers, Dr. Mimi Nahariah Azwani Mohamed and Assoc. Prof. Dr Elizabeth Anthony were invited to give talks during the GELS-Erasmus Training Week conducted at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUT) Greece on 24 and 27 June .
